Excellence Grounded in Fatih
All Saints Catholic Academy welcomes Melissa Santos as Principal for the 2016-2017 school year. Mrs. Santos comes to All Saints Catholic Academy from Michigan where she had been Principal of Guardian Angels Catholic School in Clawson for the last two years. Previous to her time at GA, Mrs. Santos has had a long career as a classroom educator for over 25 years.
Mrs. Santos began her teaching career in 1990 at Talala Elementary School in Park Forest before becoming a Special Education Resource Teacher at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic School in Flossmoor where she remained for 15 years. In that time, she instituted and created a special education program that was adopted by the district and became the benchmark for Catholic Schools in the Vicariate. Eventually becoming an Administrator as Special Education Coordinator, Mrs. Santos taught students, trained teachers and facilitated the latest teaching techniques available to insure differentiated teaching methodologies were being applied so as to help each and every student, regardless of need, to be able to meet their fullest potential in a Catholic academic setting. After her work at IJP, Mrs. Santos then became both a general education and special education teacher in the classroom for Parker Junior High School in Flossmoor School District 161.
Mrs. Santos received her B.A. Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Learning Disabilities from the University in Dayton, Ohio in 1990 and her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois in 2005.
Mrs. Santos is married to her husband Andrew and they have four beautiful children – Nicholas and Kailee who are in college, Logan who is in high school and Drew who will be attending First Grade at ASCA. Happy to be able to move back to Illinois where she was born and raised because of her husband’s work, Mrs. Santos is looking forward to beginning her time at ASCA and has noted, “coming back home in itself is wonderful; and the added bonus of being Principal within a Catholic School where I feel the most passion is a true blessing especially when I have the honor of being at a place that has the tremendous reputation that All Saints Catholic Academy enjoys.”
Mrs. Santos has expressed a great passion for her work, and can’t wait to meet and work with the students, parents, staff and teachers at ASCA.
