Principal's Newsletter - February 18, 2015

Make mine a generous heart.     When a baby is born, we all wait anxiously to hear their first word.  Will it be Mama?  Will it be Dada?  Shortly after those are mastered, the word “mine” comes in a vengeance. It is that young that we start to want to possess things and to possess them exclusively.  Parents work on the “share” word instead but it isn’t easy. It isn’t even easy for us adults.

In a world where most have grown up saying, "mine, mine, mine,” there could be a community of people who instead turn regularly to God and says, “Yours, Lord… It’s all Yours!”  Are we willing… are we ready to be that person…that family…..the ones with a generous heart?

Amy Logan will visit ASCA

SHPP is generously offering assemblies for our students with guest speaker Amy Logan. She is the author of “A Girl with a Cape”, and will be with us on Monday, February 23rd.   We are grateful.  I also have an article to recommend.  It is called “How to Raise a Nice Human Being” (https://www.yahoo.com/parenting/how-to-raise-a-nice-human-being-whos-not-a-109416839708.html?soc_src=mags&soc_trk=ma)

Reminder:  The CORe Team and SHPP Present Speaker and Author Amy Logan

On behalf of the CORe Team and SHPP, we are excited and blessed to have local author Amy Logan visit with our students on Monday, Feb 23rd.  Ms. Logan’s two books, "A Girl with a Cape" and "A Girl with a Cape and her Jar of Pennies” are inspirational stories about how we can all be everyday heroes. She holds a BS in Speech Pathology and a MA in Teaching.  Traveling to schools, she speaks with students about making a positive difference in people's lives by “paying it forward with kindness.”

Amy will address preschool through 4th graders in one assembly, showing the children that they can make a difference every day just by doing “little things.”  Another assembly for grades 5-8 will focus on leadership, mentorship to younger students, and setting a good example.  Our CORe values will be addressed in each assembly.  She will also visit K and 1st grades individually in their classrooms to read more and allow them a smaller Q&A session. Finally, Ms. Logan will have lunch with 6 students from grades 2-4 who have been selected in a lottery.

Check out Amy Logan’s website for additional information: http://www.gotyourcape.com/.

Please take a moment to talk to your children about this exciting upcoming event!!

ASCA Lenten Service Project – Hogar del Pobre

All throughout Lent, All Saints students and their families will support the Hogar del Pobre orphanage in Celaya, Mexico with prayer and a clothing collection.  For most of the children at the orphanage, the clothing that they receive from All Saints students will be the only new outfit that they receive all year long.  In past years, All Saints families have generously been able to contribute over 700 pieces of clothing during the forty days of Lent, which is our current goal (many of our classrooms have set a class collection goal).  The Lenten Service Project flyer is being sent home with all oldest and only students today, and is also available at the school website.  Thank you in advance for your generous contributions.

Please note that the orphanage is located in an area of Mexico where it gets very cold at night without heat.  Warm clothing is their greatest need.  Shoes, jackets, pajamas, socks and underwear are needed too.  Even though we have assigned each grade level a size, you are welcome to bring in any size.

In this project, we continue to encourage our students to become ‘others centered’, learning and experiencing how it is to be Christ's loving hands and hearts when doing small things with great love!
