Principal's Newsletter - January 21, 2015

A Day of Service.  I am not sure how Dr. King’s legacy has morphed into a day celebrating serving others; but I have to believe that he would be very proud of that evolution. Dr. King taught us much by his actions and his words. He is one who helps us understand how to live and how to die. I felt I could say the same about Cardinal Bernardin and Saint Pope John Paul II.

Many years ago as we created the curriculum for the school, we titled it “An Other’s Centered Curriculum”. This past Monday, and each Martin Luther King Day that our students go out into the community to serve, I am gratified to see the fruition of that “others-centered” vision. Several of the sites that our students served at sent me notes of gratitude.  I am not deserving of these expressions of thanks, but you sure are. Thank you for once again being the hands and heart of Jesus to others.

MLK Day Recap

Thank you to all the ASCA families for serving in the community on MLK Day with their children.  If you took any photos please email them to Ann Zediker at jazediker@comcast.net   A service picture board will be put together so children can see how our ASCA families served in the community this year.

To receive credit for attendance on January 19, students will be asked to identify their act(s) of service, and to write a paragraph of reflection on how this service has helped others in the community and what it felt like to contribute in this way. If you were able to offer service as a family, take time together to talk about the experience and write a paragraph of reflection together.  The ASCA MLK Service Project Form is due on Monday, January 26, 2015. This gives your children a week to complete this form after their day of service.

2015-2016 Re-enrollment Information

Re-enrollment materials for the 2015-2016 school year will be going out to all currently enrolled families via the oldest and only student in grade 7 and below today.  Registration packets will be family specific, so please look for your packet.  The deadline for returning your re-enrollment forms and re-enrollment fee will be Friday, January 30.  Please contact Patty Bajek at (630) 961-6125 with any questions.

Open House

Do you have a friend or neighbor that is interested in coming to All Saints?  Bring them to All Saints this weekend on Sunday, January 25 from 1 – 3 pm.  We will begin enrolling families who are new to All Saints for the coming 2015-2016 school year.  There is no greater endorsement for an All Saints education than a recommendation from a current school family.  We will have parent and student volunteers available to show them around, or we encourage you to take them on a personal tour.

DINNER DANCE AUCTION ANNIVERSARY BENEFIT

We are in high gear with Dinner Dance Auction planning and we are asking you to rally with us around a very important date!

January 30, 2015 is the deadline for:

  1. Donating an interesting item or unique experience to the Anniversary Benefit; donations can reduce your Family Fundraising Obligation;
  2. Becoming a Corporate Sponsor of the Anniversary Benefit or submitting an ad for the Auction catalog; sponsorships and ads can bring great visibility to your business;
  3. Submitting a Saintly Spot for the Auction catalog; your child’s picture in print is a great way to recognize achievement and can bring a big smile to his/her face.

Your participation is urgently needed – and deeply appreciated!  The contributions we all make now will help to shape the success of our Anniversary Benefit!

Auction Donation Forms, Ideas for Auction Item Donations, Sponsorship and Advertising Forms and Saintly Spot Forms are available on the DDA website at www.ascadda.org.  If you have questions on any of these opportunities, please e-mail Michelle Yacullo at Yacullo@sbcglobal.net or Tim Traynor in the School Office at ttraynor@ascacademy.org.

Tuition Assistance for Catholic School Students

The Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) for the Diocese of Joliet distributes hundreds of needs-based scholarships each year. Students K-12 are eligible to apply for financial assistance to help cover the cost of tuition.  The tuition assistance grants are determined on an annual basis. Families must apply each year in order to be considered. All determinations are based a financial aid analysis based on the grant and aid application from the FACTS Company.   Families are encouraged to complete this application in January and ensure that all required support documentation is submitted by the March 1 deadline.  Grant notification letters will be mailed by the end of May.  The award checks will be sent directly to the schools.  More information and links can be found at the CEF website:  http://www.dioceseofjoliet.org/cef/
