Principal's Newsletter - May 4, 2016

This Friday will be our annual May Crowning. For centuries, Catholic churches and Catholic schools have honored the Blessed Mother for her selfless devotion to the Lord.  Mary, just like every mother among us, helped shape Jesus into a man who had her sense of devotion to God, had the moral compass to recognize when things were out of sync in his community and with the church of his day, and taught him to love his family with extraordinary devotion. The stories we know of Mary as a mother are the stories that let us see Jesus as human. He was always divine; but for us to understand and love him as part of the Holy Trinity, we are blessed to see him as human. Even as a child, Jesus knew that he was of God and was special.  That would not have been possible if his mother did not guide him and support him from the moment he was born.  We do that for our children as well. The model we have from the Blessed Mother is to be cherished by every woman.

At ASCA, we invite the grandparents who are able to attend to share this morning of devotion with us. It is a recognition of their bond with their grandchildren to share their deep faith and let it live through their families.  Quite a lovely moment. It is an honor to be part of such a tradition.  If you are not able to share this time with us here at school, I encourage you to crown the Blessed Mother together as a family at home.  These are the moments that become real memories for our children.

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!

The staff and I are so grateful for all your thoughtfulness and generosity during Teacher Appreciation week.   As I retire, you all surprised me with a special act of touching generosity – dozens of vases of flowers.   How kind and overwhelming.  Thank you!

Shoes

Beginning next week, tennis shoes will be allowed to be worn with uniforms.  Please do not think this means flip-flops or sandals...the dispensation is for tennis shoes only. smiley

Create a Family Legacy at ASCA – Sponsor a Paver Brick for the St. Therese, The Little Flower, Graduate Plaza

Buy a Paver Brick to commemorate your child’s years at ASCA, or honor a special student, First Communion, graduation, teacher or coach!  This is also a great way to memorialize a loved one, or to celebrate a birthday or anniversary with a gift that will last a lifetime.

The sponsorship of a Brick costs $175 for 6” x 6”, $250 for 6” x 12”, or $500 for 12” x 12”.  Also, there are many religious and other icons available to enrich the message and appearance of paver bricks.

Many Grandparents have shown interest in paver bricks to honor their family or an event, and we will have a St. Therese Plaza information table staffed by volunteers on Grandparents Day this Friday, May 6.  For an order form and to see available icons, go to the St. Therese Plaza page on the ASCA website (http://www.ascacademy.org/SupportOurSchool/StThereseGraduatePlaza/tabid/106/Default.aspx).  For your convenience, the brochure and icon pictures are also available as attachments to this newsletter.  The brochure can also be requested at the School Office.  Please contact Tim Traynor at ttraynor@ascacademy.org for more information.
