The world is spinning fast for Americans.  We are bombarded daily with fear of terrorists, allegations of ethical breaches in government and business, children dying in senseless violence, and general anxiety about what will happen next. I am troubled as an educator that children are so exposed to such things….it is the only world that they know when they watch TV or see movies that are not Disney.  I don’t have a solution; but I do hope that we can create a counter-culture here at school that supports a different view of what the world should be and how we fit in that world as followers of Christ.   Our readings right now are rich in what the apostles were learning as they walk with Jesus.  They seemed to be slow to understand what they were called to be, so it is understandable that children are slow or inconsistent as well.  It is so common for a child who has made a mistake to try to divert the conversation somewhere else to relieve the burden of being responsible for their actions.  This is human nature, I am afraid.  The disciples did it…..but they were often reminded by Jesus of what was really required of them.  As parents and teachers, we have to be the voice of Jesus in the lives of children by helping them to keep the true North of their compass.

Parent Teacher Conferences

The parent teacher conference registration portal will be open until Friday, October 30 at 4 pm.  If you need to make a change after that, please email Helen Kolar at hkolar@ascacademy.org

As of Tuesday afternoon, a little over 400 students have scheduled conferences.  Thank you for taking care of this important task; however, there are over 100 students who still have not scheduled conferences.    Please remember you may only schedule with your child’s homeroom teacher. Drop-In Child Care for the November 6th Conferences

The Junior High Academy Student Voices would like to provide child care for parents who are not able to reserve a sitter during their children’s scheduled conferences.  Child care will be available on Thursday, November 5 from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM, and on Friday, November 6 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  The care will be located in Café 1 across from the Main Office.  Children will be able to watch a Disney movie, play a game or be creative at the coloring center.  Please contact Maria Kazlauskas at mkazlauskas@ascacademy.org with any questions. 

Safe Touch Materials

In late November the students will have the safe touch instruction in their health class. The materials used will be available for parent preview during parent conferences.  The table will be by the main office.

Cafeteria News

Just a reminder that we do not have hot lunch being served next Thursday and Friday (11/5 & 11/6) due to parent-teacher conferences.  Please make sure you did not order a hot lunch on either of those days.  

After your child spends their weekend enjoying Halloween, they usually want a few treats included in their lunch.  If you choose to add any candy to their lunch boxes, we do ask that you please include a wet wipe to clean your child's hands when they are done to protect their fellow students who suffer from food allergies.  Thank you for keeping our school safe.

I had the great pleasure of attending the Diocese of Joliet School Board in-service recently and was struck by the clear message that the mission of Catholic schools is truly a part of the mission of the Catholic Church. Father Belmonte, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Joliet, shared that “next to its sacramental life, Catholic education is the greatest gift that God enables the Catholic Church to provide. Without knowing Jesus Christ and being formed in His way of life, the human person cannot reach his or her highest potential, nor can the Church be an effective force for goodness in the world.” As parents, students and faculty, we are all involved in very important work at our school!

The participation of many current, alumni and founding families; pastors; staff; and students in the principal focus groups has helped highlight the many strengths and challenges that face All Saints. Your pride and commitment to continuing to support the growth of All Saints Catholic Academy rings through your candid and thoughtful responses. All Saints is a very unique school, and one that is highly regarded within the Diocese and the Catholic school community. Regional in nature, we gather a group of multiple parish families into one school family.  This regional model requires active two-way engagement to bond the school and parish communities. We encourage you to seek ways to build even stronger bonds between All Saints and your home parishes, fusing the mission of our school and the Church. Let’s help all of these parish communities feel the same sense of pride in All Saints that we do!

The Board has refined and approved its goals for the year, which include:

• Creation of a sustainable budget and the establishment of the annual tuition

• Examination of the curriculum and its optimal delivery through textbooks and technology

• Completion and maintenance of a one-to-one technology initiative

• Development of marketing initiatives to maintain and increase enrollment, including examination of social media presence

• Increase presence and engagement of ASCA families with parishes

• Foster an effective and valued school-family partnership (e.g., athletics, SHPP, newsletters, surveys, policy guidance) via communications and programs

Meet your Board: This month we would like to introduce and highlight two more of our board members:

Jeff Berta: I have been a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle since 2005.  My wife Christine and I live in Naperville and are the parents of two children – son Tom (19 and a freshman at Iowa State University) and daughter Katie (15 and a sophomore at Naperville Central High School). In addition to my position on the school board of All Saints Catholic Academy, I am also an active member of St. Thomas’ parish community serving on the Parish Pastoral Council/Pastoral Leadership Council as well as the Stewardship Commission.  I am also a Eucharistic Minister and have served in other ministry capacities at St. Thomas.  For the past 5 years I have taught religious education for the 4^th grade.  I truly enjoy bringing the Catholic faith to the young people at our parish. 

Professionally, I was educated and worked as an architect in the State of Illinois in the early part of my career.  Since, I have held positions in corporate real estate with US Robotics, 3Com Corporation, and Harris Bank/BMO.  For the past 10+ years I have been the Senior Director of Real Estate with Structured Development, a full service real estate development firm in Chicago.  The built environment has always been a passion and I am blessed to have the ability to work on this passion as my job. 

I am honored to be in the 3^rd year of my service on the school board of All Saints Catholic Academy.  While I do not have children in ASCA, I serve to bring an independent point of view to the board. 

Lori Steiner: Our family has been at All Saints since 2009. We have two daughters.   Meredith is in the 4^th grade and Abby is in the 2^nd grade. We have been active parishioners at Holy Spirit Catholic Community for the past 10 years volunteering with Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) and as a Eucharistic Minister as well as serving as greeters for weekly Mass. 

In addition to serving as a classroom volunteer at the school, I have also provided leadership to the New Family Welcome Team as well as serve on the RICH in CORe Values Committee. In 2014, I was asked by Father Dennis to join the School Board to represent Holy Spirit Catholic Community.  Over the past two years, I have enjoyed worked closely with Father Dennis to build a stronger All Saints community within our parish. 

Professionally, I work as the Director of the Annual Fund at Elmhurst College, having been involved in higher education development for my entire career.

(Note: The School Board committees include Finance, Marketing, Education, Technology and Facilities. Jeff serves on the Facilities Committee and Lori on the Education Committee.)

News from All Saints Athletic Association

Our 2015 Volleyball season is quickly coming to a close.  This past weekend completed our regular season with many of our teams taking top places.  Congratulations to the Girls 5A and Girls 6B2 teams who finished in 1^st place in the regular season!  Girls 8A and Boys 7A teams finished 2^nd; and Girls 8B finished in 3^rd place.  Congratulations to all our teams for a great season!  The Saints are proving to be strong on the courts!

Playoff schedules can be found at http://www.dplvba.org/. Please come out and cheer our teams to victories this weekend and help them advance to the next round!  You are sure to see some great volleyball!

All Saints Football and ASCA Cheerleaders

We finished up our best-ever combined season (JV and Varsity).  Our JV team defeated St. Thecla 14-0 to complete an undefeated season (7-0), and our varsity defeated St. Thecla 32-6 to finish 7-1.  The boys played great today at both levels.

We are on to the playoffs now.  Our JV team earned a first round bye by finishing in 1st place; our Varsity squad opens the playoffs next Sunday, November 1 at St. Francis.  We host St. Gabriel at 3 PM.

El mundo está girando muy rápido para los estadounidenses. Se nos bombardea a diario con el miedo al terrorismo, las denuncias de violaciones éticas en el gobierno y negocios, niños que mueren por  violencia sin sentido y la ansiedad general acerca de lo que sucederá después. Como educadora, me preocupa que nuestros niños están expuestos a este tipo de información...este es el único mundo que conocen cuando ven la televisión, o películas que no son de Disney. Yo no tengo una solución; pero espero que podamos crear una cultura diferente aquí en la escuela que apoya una visión diferente de lo que el mundo debería de ser y cómo encajamos en ese mundo como seguidores de Cristo. Nuestras lecturas son ricas en lo que los apóstoles estaban aprendiendo cuando decidieron caminar con Jesús. Ellos parecía que eran lentos en aprender  lo que estaban llamados a ser, por lo que es comprensible que los niños son lentos o inconsistentes también. Es tan común que un niño que ha cometido un error va a tratar de desviar la conversación a otro lugar para aliviar la carga de ser responsable de sus acciones. Me temo que esta es la naturaleza humana. Los discípulos lo hicieron pero ellos también eran recordados a menudo de lo que Jesús realmente requería de ellos. Como padres y profesores, tenemos que ser la voz de Jesús en la vida de los niños, ayudándoles a mantener el verdadero norte de su brújula.

Drop-In Child Care for the November 6th Conferences

The Junior High Academy; Voces de los Estudiantes están encantados de proveer cuidado de niños para los padres que no puedan obtener cuidado de niños o contratar a una niñera durante las conferencias programadas para sus hijos. Noticias de la Cafetería

Sólo un recordatorio de que no tendremos el almuerzo caliente el próximo jueves y viernes (05/11 y 06/11), debido a las conferencias de padres y maestros. Por favor, asegúrese de que usted no pidió un almuerzo caliente en cualquiera de esos días.

Después de que su hijo haya pasado su fin de semana disfrutando de Halloween, por lo general ellos quieren algunos dulces incluidos en su almuerzo. Si decide añadir cualquier dulce o caramelo, le pedimos que por favor incluya una toallita húmeda para limpiar las manos de su hijo. Esto con la intención de proteger a sus compañeros que sufren de alergias a los alimentos. Gracias por mantener nuestra escuela segura.

Reunión de SHPP

Comunicado del Consejo Escolar

Tuve el gran placer de asistir a la Junta Escolar de la Diócesis de Joliet  en servicio recientemente y me llamó la atención la claridad del mensaje que brinda la misión de la escuela católica que verdaderamente se traduce en una parte de la misión de la Iglesia Católica. El Padre Belmonte, Superintendente de Escuelas Católicas de la Diócesis de Joliet, compartió que "junto a su vida sacramental, la educación católica es el regalo más grande que Dios permite ofrecer a la Iglesia Católica. Sin conocer a Jesucristo y ser formado en su forma de vida, la persona humana no puede alcanzar su potencial más alto, ni puede la Iglesia ser una fuerza eficaz para el bien en el mundo. "Como padres, alumnos y profesores, todos estamos involucrados en un trabajo muy importante en nuestra escuela!

La participación de muchos estudiantes actuales, antiguos alumnos y familias fundadoras, pastores, el personal y los estudiantes en los principales grupos de enfoque ha ayudado a resaltar las incontables fortalezas y desafíos que enfrentan All Saints. Su orgullo y compromiso de seguir apoyando el crecimiento de todos los eslabones de la All Saints Catholic Academy a través de sus respuestas francas y reflexibles. All Saints es una escuela muy especial y está considerada dentro de la Diócesis y la comunidad de la escuela católica. De naturaleza  regional, que reúne un grupo de varias familias de la parroquia en una familia de la escuela. Conozca a su Consejo de Administración: Este mes nos gustaría presentar y poner de relieve dos de nuestros miembros de la junta:

Jeff Berta: He sido un feligrés de Santo Tomás Apóstol desde 2005. Mi esposa Christine y yo vivimos en Naperville y somos padres de dos hijos; Tom (19 y estudiante de primer año en la Universidad Estatal de Iowa) y Katie (15 y en segundo año en Naperville Central High School). Además de mi posición en el consejo escolar de All Saints Catholic Academy, también soy un miembro activo de la comunidad de la parroquia de Santo Tomás que sirve en el Consejo Pastoral Parroquial, Consejo de Liderazgo, así como la Comisión de Administración. Yo también soy un ministro eucarístico y he servido en otras capacidades del ministerio en St. Thomas. Durante los últimos 5 años he enseñado religión al cuarto grado. Realmente disfruto traer la fe católica a la gente joven en nuestra Iglesia.

Profesionalmente, me eduqué y trabaje como arquitecto en el Estado de Illinois en los principios de mi vida profesional. Desde entonces, me he ocupado cargos en el sector inmobiliario corporativo con US Robotics, 3Com Corporation, y Harris Bank / BMO. Durante los últimos 10 años he sido el director de Real Estate Development con desarrollo estructurado, una firma de servicios completos de desarrollo inmobiliario en Chicago. La construcción ha sido siempre una pasión y estoy bendecido por tener la capacidad de trabajar en esta pasión dentro de mi trabajo.

Tengo el honor de estar por tercer año consecutivo en servicio en el consejo escolar de All Saints Catholic Academy. Si bien no tengo niños en ASCA, me servirá para traer un punto de vista independiente a la junta.

Lori Steiner: Nuestra familia ha estado en All Saints desde el 2009. Tenemos dos hijas;  Meredith está en el cuarto grado y Abby se encuentra en el segundo grado. Hemos sido feligreses activos en Holy Spirit Catholic Community durante los últimos 10 años de voluntariado con la Liturgia de los Niños de la Palabra (CLOW) y como Ministro de la Eucaristía, además de servir como anfitriones para la misa semanal.

Profesionalmente, trabaje como Director del Fondo Anual en Elmhurst College, después de haber estado involucrada en el desarrollo de la educación superior de toda mi carrera.

Noticias de la Asociación Atlética de All Saints

Nuestra temporada de Voleibol 2015 está llegando rápidamente a su fin. Este pasado fin de semana terminó la temporada regular con muchos de nuestros equipos que toman los primeros lugares. Felicitaciones a los equipos de las niñas de 5A y las niñas de 6B2 que terminaron en primeros lugares en la temporada regular! El equipo de niñas de 8A y niños de 7A terminaron segundos y las niñas de  8B terminaron en tercer lugar. Felicidades a todos nuestros equipos por una gran temporada! All Saints está demostrando ser fuerte en las pistas!

All Saints Futbol y Cheerleaders ASCA

Terminamos nuestra mejor temporada de la historia (JV y Varsity). Nuestro equipo JV derrotó a Santa Thecla 14-0 para completar una temporada invicta (7-0), y nuestro equipo Varsity derrotó a Santa Thecla 32-6 para terminar 7-1. Los muchachos jugaron muy bien hoy en ambos niveles.

Estamos en las finales. Nuestro equipo JV obtuvo su primera ovación por terminar la ronda completa en 1er lugar; nuestro equipo Varsity abre las finales el próximo domingo 01 de noviembre en San Francisco. Y recibimos a San Gabriel a las 3:00 pm.
