What a nice start of the school year.  The weather was mild, the students seemed happy to be back, the staff was refreshed and anxious to meet their newest class…….God is good!

Each year, I like to remind us of the foundation on which our school is built. Our belief statements are:

1. God is the beginning and end of all human existence

2. Education is essentially a moral endeavor

3. Parents are the primary educators of their children 

4. The subject of education is the student

5. Teaching is an intimate communication between souls

6. Our diversity is the cornerstone of our community

We are here together because we believe that God is with us always, and we wish that to be our foundation.  We educate because it is the way we share who we are as moral people forming a society to help each other reach the potential that the Lord offers us. A few weeks ago, Fr Paul gave a homily that included the following: "The covenant with God requires a response, and it has to be a moral response based on principle".   That action plan is really what education, at its best, is all about.

Mom and Dad - your children reflect you. We are here to offer every help we can to give the children a strong love of learning, and an even stronger love of Jesus Christ. Your child is your most important treasure. We realize that your child and their learning is really our focus, and we use our academic content to help us achieve that.  

Twice a year, I speak to new teachers at Benedictine University as they are about to start their careers. The concept that teaching is an intimate communication between souls is my most important message to them.  Anyone can explain a math problem but only a wonderful teacher can reach the child in a personal way and offer a joy and love of learning that will last a lifetime.  For the teacher it starts with their own joy of being in the classroom and keeping their own focus on what is truly important….their students.  Not all of the million other things thrown at them. Our ASCA staff does work hard at this.

Finally, we are simply blessed to be a diverse community…..all of the people of God.  We are rich and poor, we are people of color, we are smart and even smarter, and we appreciate and treasure being together.  As we share this year, I ask that we reflect on occasion that this is who we are.  I wish you a beautiful, peaceful year.

1st SHPP Meeting of the Year!

Please join us after mass in Café 1 for our first SHPP meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 9 at 9:15 am.  Our President, Mili Jain, will preview the events we have scheduled for this year.  Whether you have been to a SHPP meeting before or are new to the school, please feel free to come and join in on the fun.  Don't worry if you have small children as they are welcomed at our meetings too.  If you are not able to make it but still would like to keep up to date on our activities or want to volunteer, please email Darlene Newman at newmdar@gmail.com.  

REMINDER

If you need a reminder to your child to take the bus, not take the bus, go to after care, go to chess, etc…..  the best way is to put a note on their back pack.  The next best alternative is to email the teacher BEFORE 11am (so they can see it before the end of the day).  If you call the office, we will put a note in the teacher’s mailbox, and they may not see it before the end of the day to remind the child.  We can’t call into the classes and disturb the learning for these reminders.   We truly appreciate your cooperation on this.

WE HAVE A NEW SCRIP PROCESS…..PLEASE SIGN UP FOR PRESTO PAY ASAP!

As you know, we are working from a non-cash basis this school year.  If you wish to use SCRIP to meet your FFO (Family Fundraising Obligation), be sure that you are set up on Presto Pay.  This takes a bit of processing time to get started.  The instructions are on the website at shopwithscrip.com.  Log into your account and look for the Presto Pay instructions.   Once you sign up, there is some additional verification that you will need to do which will then complete the process.   If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Bibo at dbibo11@hotmail.com.  She is happy to help!  We need you to be on Presto Pay to process your orders.   Thanks!

Opportunities

There are some outstanding events coming up that you might like to attend: 

• John Angotti will be performing his musical “JOB: The Now Testament” at St. Thomas on Friday, September 25 at 7:30 pm with a full visiting cast, and backed up by the St. Thomas Music Makers. Tickets are $15 each (kids 12 and under and free) and are available at the STA parish office during the week and will also be available at the door. It will be an absolutely amazing and inspiring night. John was here at ASCA many years ago.  He is amazing. 
• Chicago Family Enrichment is hosting a program entitled Matrimonial Love for you to consider. This is being promoted on Relevant Radio.
• St. Elizabeth Seton will be hosting a bible study entitled Mary – A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME VOLLEYBALL !!!

Come out and cheer on fellow classmates at the opening weekend for volleyball this Fri/Sat/Sun.  Please check the All Saints website for the volleyball home game schedule this weekend.  Remember that all team standings and future games can be found at http://www.dplvba.org/.

In pre-season competition this past weekend, the Girls 8A team came home with a 2^nd place finish at the St. Petronille Charger Challenge tournament.  Way to go Saints!                    

Cross Country News!

This past weekend, runners competed at the Crosstown Classic, a practice meet against St. Raphael and Ss. Peter and Paul.  A special shout out to the following athletes with “fast” times:  Ellie Glab (5^th grade); Ethan Meyers (5^th grade); Ella Davis (6^th grade); Brendan Forsythe (6^th grade); Sophie Kash (7^th grade); Aaron Munson (7^th grade); Callie Juhas (8^th grade) and Carter Bello (8^th grade).

Come out and support our athletes at the first official league meet this Saturday, Sept. 5 at 9am at Summerlakes Park/Clifford Johnson School, 2S700 Continental Dr., Warrenville.  Come cheer our runners on to a strong finish!

Dear All Saints Catholic Academy School Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year – especially to those who are new to our school family this year! While we look forward to a very productive and spirit filled year, it is also a year of three “G’s”…..Grieving, Gratitude, and Growth. In June 2016, we will say farewell to our beloved founding principal, Dr. Sandy Renehan who is retiring. Throughout this school year we want to take every opportunity to express our gratitude for her dedication, leadership and love.  We will also look forward to the future growth of All Saints as we prepare to welcome a new principal.

I believe in good communications and transparency, therefore I want to give you an update on the principal search process.  I’ve heard the rumor that the new principal has already been decided.  This is very far from the truth!!!  The exhaustive process just began in May 2015 and has a long way to go! In May the Executive Committee appointed a principal search committee.  The Executive Committee consists of the pastors of St. Elizabeth Seton, St. Margaret Mary, and St. Thomas the Apostle, the three parishes who 10 years ago each took on a debt of $3.3 million to make All Saints a reality.  These three parishes still have several years remaining on their debt obligation and are making annual payments at considerable sacrifice to parish ministries and operations.  The Executive Committee also decided to utilize the process of the Joliet Diocesan Catholic Schools Office to conduct the search for a new principal.  The search committee had its initial meeting on June 12, 2015 and does not meet again until October 27, 2015.

We are conducting a national and local search. The job opening is posted on the following websites: National Catholic Education Association, University of Notre Dame Alliance for Catholic Education, K-12 Job Spot, DuPage County AppliTrack, Diocese of Joliet AppliTrack as well as the websites of the other dioceses in Illinois. In September the job opening will appear in parish bulletins throughout the Diocese of Joliet.  Applicants are screened and interviewed by the Catholic Schools Office to verify their credentials before they can be interviewed by the search committee.  The Executive Committee receives the applications and resumes of all who have been approved by the Catholic Schools Office and are interested in the principal position at ASCA.  To date the Executive Committee has received the application and resumes of 20 interested persons. On September 11, 2015 the Executive Committee will meet and, after prayerful discernment, forward to the search committee resumes of those candidates the Executive Committee feel qualify for further consideration.  As additional resumes come in after September 11^th the Executive Committee will again meet to review those candidates.  The search committee will meet on October 27, 2015 to develop a principal profile and determine which candidates will be invited to an interview.  Interviews are scheduled in November and December 2015.

Input from those with a vested interest in ASCA is being sought in the following ways:

• Parents (August 20 and September 29, 2015 at 1:15pm – 3:15pm)

• Founder’s Society (September 29)

• Faculty and Staff (August 20)

• Board of Trustees (September 8)

• School Board Members (September 15)

• Pastors Current & Former (September 30)

• ASCA Junior High Students (facilitated by Fr. Don McLaughlin, date TBA)

    2.  An on-line survey will be available 24/7 in English and Spanish from September 8 through October 23, 2015.When it goes live you will receive notification of the link.  Everyone is invited to participate:  parents/guardians, parents who no longer have children at ASCA, alumni of ASCA, faculty & staff, Board of Trustees, Pastors, Parishioners from parishes with children attending ASCA, Benefactors – anyone with a vested interest in ASCA!

As previously mentioned, on October 27, 2015, the search committee will meet to develop a principal profile as well as first and second-round interview protocols that are based on the input received from the Focus groups and the on-line survey. Using this profile as a guide, the search committee will prayerfully discern those candidates who will be invited to interview.  Interviews are scheduled in November and December 2015.  The search will be narrowed down to three to four candidates who will be invited for second interviews.  Following second interviews, the search committee will recommend to the Executive Committee the final two candidates.  Assuming these two finalists are approved by the Executive Committee, the two finalists will have an informal “meet and greet” session with the faculty and staff.

With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Executive Committee, the pastors of the three founding parishes of ASCA, make the final decision as to who will be hired as the next principal. Our goal is to announce and introduce the new principal of All Saints Catholic Academy by spring break 2016.

ASCA Pastoral President 2015 - 2017

 

Hemos tenido un buen comienzo en este año escolar. El clima era suave, los estudiantes parecían estar contentos de estar de vuelta, el personal estaba fresco y ansioso por conocer a su nueva clase ...... .Dios es bueno!

Cada año, me gusta recordar la base sobre la que se construye nuestra escuela. Nuestros estados de creencias son:

1. Dios es el principio y fin de toda la existencia humana
2. La educación es esencialmente un esfuerzo moral
3. Los padres son los primeros educadores de sus hijos
4. El tema de la educación es el alumno
5. La enseñanza es una comunicación íntima entre las almas
6. Nuestra diversidad es la piedra angular de nuestra comunidad

Estamos aquí juntos porque creemos que Dios está siempre con nosotros, y queremos que sea nuestro fundamento. Educamos porque es la manera de compartir lo que somos como personas morales que forman una sociedad para ayudarse mutuamente a alcanzar el potencial que Dios nos ofrece. Hace unas semanas, el P. Pablo dio un sermón que incluyó lo siguiente: "El pacto con Dios requiere una respuesta, y tiene que ser una respuesta moral basada en el principio". Ese plan de acción es realmente lo que la educación, en su mejor momento, es todo.

Mamá y papá - tus hijos son un reflejo de ustedes. Estamos aquí para ofrecerles toda la ayuda que podamos darles, inculcarles amor por el aprendizaje, y un amor más fuerte por Jesucristo. Su hijo es su tesoro más importante. Nos damos cuenta de que su hijo y su aprendizaje es realmente nuestro enfoque, y usamos nuestro contenido académico para ayudarle a lograr eso.

Dos veces al año, me dirijo a los nuevos profesores en la Universidad Benedictina, ya que están a punto de comenzar sus carreras. El concepto de que la enseñanza es una comunicación íntima entre almas es mi mensaje más importante para ellos. Cualquiera puede explicar un problema de matemáticas, pero sólo un maestro(a) interesado puede ayudar a un niño de una manera personal, ofreciéndole una alegría y amor por el aprendizaje que durará toda para toda su vida. Para el profesor esto comienza con su propia alegría de estar en el salón de clases y mantener su propio enfoque en lo que es verdaderamente importante....Su estudiantes. No todos los otros millones de cosas que les agobian. Nuestro personal en ASCA trabaja duro en esto.

Por último, somos simplemente bendecidos por ser una comunidad diversa....Todo el pueblo de Dios. Somos ricos y pobres, somos gente de color, somos inteligentes y aún más inteligente, y apreciamos y el tesoro de estar juntos. Al compartir este año, le pido que reflexionemos en alguna ocasión que esto es lo que somos. Les deseo un hermoso año lleno de paz.

Primera Reunión de SHPP del Año!

Nuestro Presidente, Mili Jain, tendrá una presentación previa de los eventos que hemos programado para este año. Si usted ha estado en una reunión de SHPP antes o son nuevos en la escuela, no dude en venir y unirse a la diversión. No se preocupe si usted tiene niños pequeños, ya que tambien son bienvenidos en nuestras reuniones. RECORDATORIO
Si usted necesita un recordatorio para que su hijo tome el autobús, no tomo el autobús, va a atención después de la escuela, va a ajedrez, etc ... .. la mejor manera es poner una nota en su mochila. La siguiente mejor alternativa es enviar un correo electrónico al profesor antes de las 11am (para que puedan verlo antes de que finalice el día). Si llama a la oficina, vamos a poner una nota en el buzón del profesor, y es posible que no lo vea antes de que finalice el día para recordarle al niño. No podemos interrumpir las clases y perturbar el aprendizaje para este tipo de recordatorios. Apreciamos sinceramente su colaboración en este asunto.

Queridos padres y tutores de la escuela de All Saints Catholic Academy,

Bienvenidos al año escolar 2015-2016 - especialmente a aquellos que son nuevos en nuestra familia este año escolar que comienza! Mientras esperamos un año lleno productividad y espiritualidad, este es un año que se distinguirá por tres importantes cosas; Aflicción, Gratitud, y Crecimiento. En junio del 2016, vamos a decir adiós a nuestra querida Dr. Sandy Renehan directora y fundadora que planea jubilarse este año escolar que termina. A lo largo de este año escolar queremos aprovechar una a una las oportunidades que se nos presenten para expresarle nuestra gratitud por su dedicación, liderazgo y amor. También vamos a ver hacia el futuro crecimiento de All Saints, mientras nos preparamos para recibir a un(a) nuevo(a) director(a).

Yo creo en la comunicación y la transparencia, por lo tanto, quiero darles una actualización sobre el proceso de búsqueda para esta posición. He oído el rumor de que el nuevo director ya ha sido seleccionado. Esto está muy lejos de la verdad!!! El exhaustivo proceso acaba de comenzar en mayo del 2015 y aun se tiene un largo camino por recorrer! El pasado mayo, el Comité Ejecutivo nombró un comité de búsqueda para el nuevo(a) director(a). El Comité Ejecutivo está compuesto por los pastores de St. Elizabeth Seton, Santa Margarita María y Santo Tomás el Apóstol. Mismas parroquias que hace 10 años tomaron la responsabilidad financiera de $ 3,3 millones para hacer de All Saints una realidad. Estas tres parroquias todavía tienen algunos años para terminar de pagar la deuda, haciendo pagos anuales bajo el considerable sacrificio que afecta directamente a los ministerios parroquiales y sus operaciones. El Comité Ejecutivo también decidió utilizar el proceso de la Oficina de Escuelas Católicas de la Diócesis de Joliet para llevar a cabo la búsqueda de un(a) nuevo(a) director(a). El comité de búsqueda tuvo su primera reunión el 12 de junio del 2015, y la próxima reunión está programada para el 27 de octubre del 2015.

Estamos llevando a cabo una búsqueda a nivel nacional y local. La oferta de trabajo se publica en los siguientes sitios web: Asociación Nacional de Educación Católica, Universidad de Notre Dame en la Alianza para la Educación Católica, K-12 Trabajo para comer, DuPage Condado AppliTrack, Diócesis de Joliet AppliTrack, así como los sitios web de las otras diócesis en Illinois. En septiembre, la oferta de trabajo aparecerá en los boletines parroquiales en toda la Diócesis de Joliet. Los solicitantes son seleccionados y entrevistados por la Oficina de Escuelas Católicas para verificar sus credenciales antes de que puedan ser entrevistados por el comité de búsqueda. Las entrevistas están programadas para noviembre y diciembre del 2015.

Las aportaciones de los que tienen un interés personal en ASCA se busca en las siguientes maneras:

f. Pastores actual y anterior (30 de septiembre)
g. ASCA Estudiantes de Secundaria (facilitado por el P. Don McLaughlin, fecha TBA)

2. Una encuesta en línea estará disponible 24/7 en inglés y español a partir del 8 de septiembre al 23 de octubre del 2015. Cuando esté disponible usted recibirá la notificación del enlace.
Todos están invitados a participar: los padres / tutores, padres que ya no tienen hijos en ASCA, ex alumnos de ASCA, el profesorado y el personal de la Junta de Depositarios, Pastores, feligreses de las parroquias con niños que asisten a ASCA, Benefactores - cualquier persona con un interés personal en ASCA !

Como se mencionó anteriormente, el 27 de octubre del 2015, el comité de búsqueda se reunirá para desarrollar un perfil de director, así como para desarrollar los protocolos de la entrevista de la primera y segunda ronda, basada en la información recibida de los grupos de enfoque y la encuesta en línea. Con este perfil como guía, el comité de búsqueda será discernirá en oración aquellos candidatos que serán invitados a la entrevista. Las entrevistas están programadas en noviembre y diciembre de 2015. La búsqueda se redujo de tres a cuatro candidatos que serán invitados para una segunda entrevista. Después de una segunda entrevista, el comité de búsqueda le recomendará al Comité Ejecutivo dos últimos candidatos. Asumiendo esto(a)s dos finalistas son aprobados por el Comité Ejecutivo, los dos finalistas tendrán una reunión informal con el personal docente y administrativo.

Con la guía del Espíritu Santo, el Comité Ejecutivo, los pastores de las tres parroquias fundadoras de ASCA se tomara la decisión final en cuanto a quién será contratado como el próximo director o directora. Nuestro objetivo es dar a conocer e introducir el nuevo director de All SaintsCatholic Academy  para las vacaciones de primavera del 2016.
