Saints Speak - April 27, 2017

From Mrs. Santos

Building for the Future

This year at All Saints has been one of many firsts for me as your principal.  Additionally, there have been many new and exciting happenings, event and changes for all of us that we have enjoyed as a school community.  Before I go any further, I would like to acknowledge our 8th grade students who participated in the 7th Annual Crosstown Debate that was held at SS Peter and Paul on Monday of this week.  All Saints students went head to head with students from SS Peter and Paul and St. Raphael. Students competed in literary debates over three books that were read in English class this school year.   They also took part in two team public debates.  I would like to recognize Megan Barnhart who teaches our Honors Language Arts classes, as well as the entirety of our junior high language arts staff - Jenna Selvick, Joe Moore and Kate Galise - for the inspiring work that they do with our students.

The ASCA team bested the second place SS Peter and Paul team by 25 points.  All Saints students took 1st and 2nd place in debate, with a third ASCA student tying for 3rd place.  Small team awards were won by many of our students.  I am proud to be principal in a school where excellence is not only expected, but put into practice.  I am blessed with a faculty that goes the extra mile not only teaching, but truly caring about the formation of their students.  The bar was set high for the students on this team.  They not only accepted the challenge, they far exceeded it through their hard work, self motivation and thorough preparation.

This is just one small example of how our students have soared with the opportunities presented to them at All Saints.

Now, I turn to you.  When we talk with or tour families who are interested in All Saints Catholic Academy for their children and family, we ask them how they heard of the school.  The one answer that we hear the most is word of mouth.  These families most often know someone who spoke highly of the school, usually someone whom they trust, and often someone whose family they admire who have children that they would like their children to be like.    The best source of new students is YOU, our current school families.

I would like to remind you about our Bring a Buddy to All Saints referral program.  If you are successful in bringing new students to ASCA for the 2017-2018 school year, you could potentially earn a $250 fundraising obligation credit and/or a $500 credit toward your tuition.  Just for recommending All Saints to someone who may be looking for an excellent education that is grounded in faith. Click here to find out more about the Bring a Buddy to All Saints referral program.  We will also be sending this information home with oldest and only students.

As an incentive for new students and their families who elect to transfer to All Saints in Grades 1 - 7 from any private*, public, charter or home school, we will be participating in the Tuition Transfer Grant Program from the Diocese of Joliet.  This grant is extended over two school years for a total of $1,500 ($1,000 for year one and $500 for year two), and will be applied to offset the current school tuition.  At All Saints Catholic Academy, we take pride in providing a Catholic education that lays the foundation for students to make right choices.  We also believe that students in our school belong to something bigger than themselves thanks to their understanding that all that they do is directed toward an increased knowledge and love of God.  Please look for the letter that I will be sending home via your oldest and only student that explains more about the Tuition Transfer Grant Program.

I need each one of you, all of our current school families, to help us to build our future here at All Saints Catholic Academy. We know that happy school families are the source of new happy school families that will become part of the fabric of our ASCA family, and strengthen the foundation of our All Saints school community.  All you have to do is share your personal stories, and the stories of our amazing students.  And like all parents, our children are most precious to us.  Each one of us truly want the very best for them.

Uniform Information for Next Year and MORE

There are alot of new things in store for the 2017-2018 school year.  The 2017-2018 School Uniform Dress Code is going home with all oldest and only students from Pre K through Grade 8 today or tomorrow.  This will be accompanied by uniform ordering information from Schoolbelles and Lands' End Ordering/Price List.

Please save the date for Tuesday, May 9 when Schoolbelles will come to All Saints from 3 - 5:30 pm to personally fit your student for their school uniforms for the coming school year.  It is very helpful from a sizing standpoint to have your child try on different sizes to see how they fit.

Also, with May just around the corner, it is time for students to bring back their uniform shorts and gym shoes.  Please note that shorts should be uniform shorts and must be purchased from Schoolbelles or from Lands' End.  Also note that gym shoes should be primarily black or white with one accent color.   Also, please note that the Perfect Uniform is required on all mass days.  No shorts (boys and girls), no pants (girls only) and no gym shoes (boys and girls).   Girls in grade 4-8 are not required to wear their sweater vest in May or June.

Also, we will be selling a limited quantity of used jumpers, skirts and pants (boys) next Friday, May 5 in the Safety Zone from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Jumpers and Skirts will be priced at $5 each; and pants will be priced at $2 each.  There will also be a few additional items, none priced higher than $5.  It is cash (no checks) and carry.  So, come and take a look.
