Saints Speak - May 4, 2017

From Mrs. Santos

We Are All Saints

What a jam packed week we are wrapping up at All Saints Catholic Academy.  Yesterday, we celebrated May Crowning and a living recitation of the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary.  A special thank you to our 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students for your prayerful presentation, to Deacon Larry from St. Thomas the Apostle for facilitating the service, and to Patti Stock, our Director of Campus Ministry for preparing the students so well.  Thanks also to Allen Stock and the Music Ministry for the lovely Marian musical selections.  I would especially like to recognize ASCA staff member, Joe Moore, and Lara Risdon, one of our 5th grade students, for the beautiful Ave Maria.

Today, we welcomed our grandparents and other 'very important people' in our student's lives.  We certainly hope that all of our guests enjoyed their visit to All Saints.  There was a tremendous feeling of joy in the building as our hearts and school community grew larger on this Grandparents Day 2017.  I truly enjoyed meeting many of your parents, grandparents and other VIP's.  There are many, many people to thank - our many volunteers, our teachers and staff, our school parents and students and more.  From the bottom of my heart, please accept my thanks and gratitude for all of the time and the love that you poured into this event.

Last week, I challenged all of you to share your love for All Saints with others.  Many of you accepted that challenge.  Thank you to those who have already brought potential new students and families to our attention.   It is not too late to participate in our Bring a Buddy to All Saints referral program.  How does it work?  If you are successful in bringing new students to ASCA for the 2017-2018 school year, you could potentially earn a $250 fundraising obligation credit and/or a $500 credit toward your tuition.  Click here to find out more about the Bring a Buddy to All Saints referral program.

Also new at ASCA for the 2017-2018 school year is the Tuition Transfer Grant Program from the Diocese of Joliet.  This grant is extended over two school years for a total of $1,500 ($1,000 for year one and $500 for year two), and will be applied to offset the current school tuition for students who transfer into Grades 1-7 at All Saints.  Tell all of your friends about what an All Saints education means to your student and family.  Invite them to take the next step to find out more.

If you know anyone who has a student who will be entering kindergarten this fall, or even in the next year or two, please invite them to attend our Kindergarten Open House this coming Thursday morning, May 11 from 9 to 10:30.  Children are welcome to come along.  Please give us a call if you have any questions; RSVP to

Tomorrow on Friday, May 5 after school, we will be giving away free All Saints Yard Signs after school in the safety zone (table located where we are also selling used uniforms).  If you do not already have a sign, stop by to pick one up.  Please display the sign in front of your home to show your school pride, and to show that YOU are an All Saints family.  Due to the H Frame Wire Stakes that have sharp edges, we can only give the signs to parents or adult caregivers.

To cap off this wonderful week, I was informed that All Saints and partner school districts Indian Prairie 204 and West Aurora 129 have been awarded an ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) MSP (Math and Science Partnership Program) Grant of $500,000 for Project SMILE (Science and Math In Line with Engineering).  This proposal focuses on eight science and eight math practices, applying them within the context of engineering.  This will happen through a partnership with higher education faculty from the NIU College of Engineering and North Central College, as well as industry partners that include Quesek Innovations and Ball Horticultural.  Teacher participants will gain a better understanding of the practices in math and science and how they are applied in industry to engineer everyday objects.

Participating teachers from All Saints and the partner school districts will engage in two summers of engineering camps hosted by North Central College in collaboration with ASM Education Foundation (the foundation of the world's largest materials engineering society, ASM International).  They will also explore engineering in the areas of physical and life science by collaborating with a scientist or engineer from the industry partners, and conduct an action research project relevant to their teaching.

Participating teachers will also be engaged in teacher leadership building activities, and be supported by a PLC led by a Presidential Awards in Science and Mathematics Teaching winning teacher from the DuPage Regional Office of Education and a teacher educator from Bradley University.

We are thrilled to have been a part of this successful grant, and look forward to our teachers' participation, and the knowledge and ideas that they will bring back to ASCA to put into practice in their teaching.

Remember that this coming Monday night, we will be celebrating our 2nd Annual ASCA STEM Fest on May 8 from 6 - 8 pm. Please go to to sign up your student, or to volunteer.  You and your student will not want to miss the fun!!!!

Lastly, I know that I speak for all of our teachers when I say that this has been an AMAZING Teacher Appreciation Week.  The outpouring of time, creativity and generosity from the All Saints school community can not be put into words.  Thank you to everyone!

Uniform Information for Next Year and MORE

There are alot of new things in store for the 2017-2018 school year.  The 2017-2018 School Uniform Dress Code was sent home last week with all oldest and only students from Pre K through Grade 8.  This will be accompanied by uniform ordering information from Schoolbelles and Lands' End Ordering/Price List.   Please note that there was an error in the Schoolbelles flyer with regards to boys polo colors.  They are Navy and Grey for boys (not white as noted in the flyer, which is only offered for girls).  This has been corrected at their website.

Schoolbelles will be coming to All Saints this coming Tuesday, May 9 from 3 - 5:30 pm to personally fit your student for their school uniforms for the coming school year.  It is very helpful from a sizing standpoint to have your child try on different sizes to see how they fit.  And, note that Schoolbelles is currently having a 20% off sale on all girls jumpers and skirts, which extends to orders that are placed at the uniform fitting.

Also, now that we are in the month of May, students may wear uniform shorts and gym shoes.  Please note that shorts should be uniform shorts and must be purchased from Schoolbelles or from Lands' End.  Also note that gym shoes should be primarily black or white with one accent color.   Also, please note that the Perfect Uniform is required on all mass days.  No shorts (boys and girls), no pants (girls only) and no gym shoes (boys and girls).   Girls in grades 4-8 are not required to wear their sweater vest in May or June.

Also, we will be selling a limited quantity of used jumpers, skirts and pants (boys) tomorrow, Friday, May 5 in the Safety Zone from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Jumpers and Skirts will be priced at $5 each; and pants will be priced at $2 each.  There will also be a few additional items, none priced higher than $5.  It is cash (no checks) and carry.  We'll see you in the Zone!
