Religion

  • Gospels discussed weekly in lectionary based program
  • Mass planning starts in kindergarten
  • Spiraling building on prior knowledge

Reading/Language Arts

  • Kindergarten students are led into reading
  • First grade enforces the critical reading skills
  • Second grade solidifies reading skills including comprehension and fluency
  • 3 class periods (2 ½ hours) of reading and language arts are offered daily
  • Journaling and grammar are introduced in kindergarten and carried through 2nd grade

Mathematics

  • Everyday Math is a spiraling curriculum
  • Manipulatives are used throughout primary academy
  • Games reinforce math concepts and practice fact power
  • Higher level thinking concepts are introduced at a developmentally appropriate age

Science

  • Students construct an understanding of science concepts through their own investigations and analyses using the thinking processes of comparing, communicating, and observing
  • Science exploration starts in kindergarten
  • This problem based curriculum develops critical thinking skills
  • Different types of living things are studied in kindergarten through 2nd grade

Social Studies

  • World culture study is a cross-curricular, school-wide study
  • Junior Achievement is offered in Grades 1 and 2
  • Communities and map skills are emphasized in this academy
