Just before Easter Break, we had the rare opportunity to share a couple of days with Charlene Espinoza, the founder of Bosh Bosh.  It was very interesting for the students to see that view of Liberia. As we learned, Liberia means “Land of the Free”, and is a country that was inhabited in its’ early history by free-born American blacks.

After Charlene left ASCA, she posted the following on her Facebook page: "It was an amazing experience to get to work with kindergartners through 8th graders and have them learn what life is like in a country that's across the oceans for them. We spoke about our differences and similarities, our dreams and their dreams, and why education is so important.  The students learned about Liberia and about our girls.  The little ones even got to design their own Bosh Bosh bags.  We sang, we danced and I took it all in bit by bit... These students are learning about compassion, social entrepreneurship, and how to solve world problems, which I think every child should learn. A third grader came up to me and said "I don't have to wait until I grow up to make a difference in the world, I'm doing my part everyday (while he pulled out from his backpack a Bosh Bosh wallet he had just purchased with his allowance money).  I'm going to make sure to tell my mom about Bosh Bosh so we can help more girls go to school in Liberia."  It's moments like these that make me hopeful for our world even when it sometimes looks so dark and grim. The world definitely needs more third graders like him.”

Charlene asked me to share this with the ASCA family as well.  "Sharing our Bosh Bosh story with the students and staff of ASCA was truly an eye-opening experience. It made me realize that no matter how old we are, whether it's 5, 15, or 50, male or female, private school or public, from Liberia or the United States, we're all the same no matter what.  At the end of the day, we all just want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, because we all care and want to help one another. Speaking to the students of ASCA gave me a deeper perspective on who we are as human beings. I honestly thought I was there to speak about my work in Liberia and all the amazing things our team has learned and done.  In reality, I have to say that I left with so much respect and admiration for people in general, especially those I met during my trip there. To meet people who truly care about a cause so dear to my heart, and a yearning to genuinely want to help people they've never met that were in need was the most powerful thing to experience. I am so blessed to have had this opportunity to come meet everyone at ASCA. I strongly believe things always happen for a reason.  My reason for being there was to share the Bosh Bosh story, as well as learn from a group of future leaders and change makers that firmly believe this world can be a better place with a bit of compassion, love and understanding. Thank you ASCA for giving me the opportunity to experience all of this."

I thank you for welcoming Charlene. If you ever wondered what we are talking about when we describe ourselves as having an OTHERS CENTERED CURRICULUM …this is an example. Your support of the Bosh Bosh products earned just over $2,000.  This will allow   20 girls to go to school in Liberia that would not have be able to otherwise. You have once again changed lives.

Save the Date for Uniform Fitting Day – Tuesday, May 10

Please note that Schoolbelles, All Saints Catholic Academy's official uniform supplier will be back at All Saints on Tuesday, May 10 to personally fit your child for their school uniform for the coming school year.   The uniform flyer will be coming home next week with oldest and only students.  This will be the only time that Schoolbelles will be at ASCA this year. 

D203 Busing Change

Please note that there will be no D203 busing home from school on Friday, May 6.  Please make alternate transportation arrangements for your student(s) on this day.

2016-2017 Fees and Forms Paperwork

Fees and Forms paperwork for the 2016-2017 school year will be sent home via backpack mail next Wednesday, May 4.  Please be on the lookout for your packet as it contains time sensitive information.  The return of your paperwork completes your re-enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year.

On Tuesday, May 10, remember to bring money and join us from 3:30-4:15 pm in the safety zone to purchase yummy baked treats at the 8^th Grade Legacy Fundraising Bake Sale!  There will be all kinds of wonderful baked goodies! Don’t miss it! CASH ONLY– NO CHECKS.

Watch for more Legacy Marketplace events in the coming weeks and months! Our goal is to raise funds to provide livestock animals to impoverished peoples to help stop poverty and hunger in 3^rd world countries. The Class of 2016 thanks you all for your support!

Used Uniform Resale

After a couple year hiatus, the ASCA Used Uniform Resale is back.  Please note the dates:

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2-6 and we have a variety of ways to show your support.  On May 2, please send your kids to school with a freshly picked or purchased flower for their teacher to create a bouquet for their classroom.  We are also offering the opportunity to help purchase gift cards for the teachers.  Please send donations, payable to ASCA, to the office with "Teacher Appreciation" noted in the memo by Friday, April 29.  Direct any questions to Mili Jain at mili_anand@hotmail.com.

Create a Family Legacy at ASCA – Sponsor a Paver Brick for the St. Therese, The Little Flower, Graduate Plaza

Purchase a Paver Brick to commemorate your child’s years at ASCA, or honor a special student, First Communion, graduation, teacher or coach!  This is also a great way to memorialize a loved one, or to celebrate a birthday or anniversary with a gift that will last a lifetime.

The sponsorship of a Brick costs $175 for 6” x 6”, $250 for 6” x 12”, or $500 for 12” x 12”.  Also, there are many religious and other icons available to enrich the message and appearance of paver bricks.

Many Grandparents have shown interest in paver bricks to honor their family or an event, and we will have a St. Therese Plaza information table staffed by volunteers on Grandparents Day.

All Saints' Grandparents Day and May Crowning will be celebrated this year on the morning of Friday, May 6th.

Dinner Dance Auction News

Thank you to all our ASCA families for making the 2016 DDA such a successful event!  

We raised over $97,000 towards the operating budget and $26,000 for the Fund A Need.  Our three Fund A Need departments of PE, Library, and Jr High Science Labs are busy gathering ideas and purchasing supplies.  So far, our departments have purchased or plan on purchasing the following items:  

•        PE- Leveling the East field
•        Library- new shelving, Award books for 2016-2017, book sets including a set of updated country books, book supports for the new shelves.  
•        Science- classroom set of microscopes, dual view compound microscope, set of 200 anatomy, botany, and pathology prepared slides, teacher Flocabulary subscription, classroom set of large plastic graduated cylinders, 6-12 Chrome books for 6th grade lab, and updated/conversion materials for the FOSS Kits.

SAVE THE DATE:  The 2017 Dinner Dance Auction will be held at the Embassy Suites on March 18, 2017.

Jr. High Production of Disney's High School Musical Jr. This Weekend

Please join us for the 8th annual Jr. High Spring Musical with performances to be held this weekend, Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 at 7 pm each evening. This year our students will perform their version of the contemporary musical comedy, Disney's High School Musical, Jr.   This is a story of a popular high school basketball star and a shy, academically gifted newcomer as they discover they share a secret passion for singing.   Come see what happens when they sign up together to audition for the lead roles in the school musical!

Tickets are available at the door for $10 per adult and $5 for Students and Seniors!    We hope you will come see our talented Jr. High students as they portray these characters and put on a show that is sure to entertain all!  Questions regarding tickets sales may be directed to Debbie Kosmach at nolkos@aol.com.

Justo antes de las vacaciones de Semana Santa, tuvimos la rara oportunidad de compartir un par de días con Charlene Espinoza, la fundadora de Bosh Bosh . Fue muy interesante para los estudiantes tener otra visión de Liberia. Como hemos aprendido, Liberia significa " tierra de libertad "  y es un país que fue habitado en su temprana historia de los negros americanos nacidos libres.

Después de Charlene dejó ASCA, se publico lo siguiente en su página de Facebook: “Fue una experiencia increíble trabajar con niños de kinder a 8º grado y que aprendan lo que es la vida de un país que está al otro lado del océano para ellos. Hablamos nuestras diferencias y similitudes, nuestros sueños y sus sueños, y por qué la educación es tan importante. Los estudiantes aprendieron sobre Liberia y sobre nuestras niñas. Los más pequeños, incluso llegaron a diseñar sus propias Bosh Bosh bolsas. Cantamos, bailamos y yo lo tome todo poco a poco ... Estos estudiantes están aprendiendo acerca de la compasión, el ser emprendedores y como resolver problemas sociales en el mundo, algo que yo creo que todos los niños deben aprender. Un niño de tercer grado se acercó a mí y dijo: "yo no tengo que esperar hasta que sea grande para hacer una diferencia en el mundo, yo estoy haciendo mi parte todos los días (mientras que él sacó de su mochila una billetera Bosh Bosh que acababa de comprar con su propio dinero). Voy a asegurarme de decirle a mi mamá sobre Bosh Bosh para que podamos ayudar a más niñas van a la escuela en Liberia. "Es en momentos como estos que de verdad creo que aun hay esperanza para nuestro mundo, incluso cuando se ve tan oscuro y sombrío. El mundo sin duda necesita más estudiantes de tercer grado”

Charlene me pidió compartir esto con la familia de ASCA también. "Compartir nuestra historia Bosh Bosh con los estudiantes y el personal de ASCA, este fue realmente una experiencia reveladora. Me hizo dar cuenta de que no importa la edad que tengamos, ya sea 5, 15, o 50 anos, seamos hombre o mujeres, escuela privada o pública, de Liberia o en los Estados Unidos, todos somos lo mismo y no importa. Al final del día, todos queremos ser parte de algo más grande que nosotros mismo. Hablando con los estudiantes de ASCA  tengo una perspectiva más profunda de lo que somos como seres humanos, honestamente pensé que estaba allí para hablar sobre mi trabajo en Liberia y todas las cosas increíbles que nuestro equipo han aprendido y hecho.  Pero en realidad, tengo que decir que me llevo el respeto y admiración por la gente en general, especialmente los que me encontré durante mi viaje a ASCA. Para hacer frente a las personas que realmente se preocupan por una causa tan cercana a mi corazón y el anhelo genuino de ayudar a las personas que nunca han conocido. Soy muy afortunada de haber tenido la oportunidad de venir a conocer a la gente de ASCA. Creo firmemente que las cosas siempre suceden por una razón. Mi razón de ir fue para compartir la historia de Bosh Bosh, así como para aprender de un grupo de futuros líderes y agentes del cambio que creen firmemente que este mundo puede ser un lugar mejor con un poco de compasión, amor y comprensión. Gracias a ASCA por darme la oportunidad de experimentar todo esto”.

Les agradezco la bienvenida a Charlene Si alguna vez se preguntaron lo que estamos hablando cuando nos describimos a nosotros mismos, es el tener un currículo centrado OTROS... este es un ejemplo. Su apoyo a los productos Bosh Bosh obtuvo poco más de $2,000. Esto permitirá que 20 niñas que van a la escuela en Liberia, que no podrían hacerlo de otro modo. Usted ha cambiado una sus vidas.

High School Musical

El martes 10 de mayo recuerde traer dinero y únase a nosotros de 3:30-4:15 pm en la zona de seguridad para la compra de pastelillos deliciosos a beneficio del 8º grado en su “Legado de recaudación de fondos” que esta vez será a través de la ¡venta de pasteles! Habrá todo tipo de productos horneados. ¡No se lo pierdan! RECUERDE TRAER SOLO EFECTIVO, NO SE ACEPTARAN CHEQUES.

¡Busque más eventos de las ventas del Legado en las próximas semanas y meses! Nuestro objetivo es recaudar fondos para proporcionar ganado a los pueblos empobrecidos para ayudar a detener la pobreza y el hambre en los países del 3er mundo. ¡La clase de 2016 le agradece de antemano por su apoyo!

Semana de apreciación a los maestros.

La semana de Agradecimiento a los Maestros se llevará a cabo la semana del 2-6 de mayo. Este año, estamos pidiendo su apoyo de varias maneras. El lunes 2 de mayo, por favor envíe sus hijos a la escuela con una flor recién cortada o comprada. También estamos ofreciendo la oportunidad de apoyar con la compra de tarjetas de regalo para los profesores. Patrociné un ladrillo para Santa Teresa en la Plaza “La Flor Pequeña”

Con las Primeras comuniones, Día de los abuelos y Graduaciones que vienen en las próximas semanas, queremos recordarle la Oportunidad de tener un ladrillo personalizado en honor a un evento y crear su Legado de Unión Familiar en All Saints. Usted puede hacer una donación para patrocinar un ladrillo para conmemorar su primera comunión o graduación, o el honor de un estudiante de la, el maestro  o su entrenador especial! Esta es también una gran manera de recordar a un ser querido, o celebrar un cumpleaños o aniversario con un regalo que durara toda la vida.

El patrocinio de cada ladrillo cuesta $175 por 6”x6”, $250 por 6”x12” o $500 por 12”x12”. Además, recientemente descubrimos que hay algunas imágenes religiosas para enriquecer el mensaje y la apariencia de los mensajes en los ladrillos.

Algunos abuelos han mostrado interés en los ladrillos, por lo que tendremos una mesa que responderá a sus preguntas referentes al patrocinio para los tabiques de la plaza a St. Therese.

Jr. High Production de Disney's High School Musical Jr. Este fin de Semana

Reserve la fecha para el 8th anual Jr. High Spring Musical con actuaciones para llevarse a cabo el Viernes 29  y 30 de Abril. Este año la producción es Disney's High School Musical Jr. Esta es la historia de un jugador de Basquetbol popular y una estudiante estudiosa e inteligente que comparten el secreto y su amor por cantar. Ven a ver qué pasa cuando ellos dos cantan juntos para las audiciones de los roles estelares en el musical de la escuela.

¡Los boletos estarán a la venta en la puerta; $10 por adulto y $5 por estudiante y personas de la tercera edad. Esperamos que puedan venir a ver a nuestros talentosos estudiantes y como caracterizan a los personajes que seguramente nos mantendrán entretenidos a todos.
